In this lesson we'll discuss prevention and early detection of disease. Early detection is accomplished through screening procedures.
Upon completion of this lesson, you should be able to:
- differentiate between primary, secondary and tertiary prevention,
- calculate and differentiate between sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of a diagnostic test or series of tests,
- recognize evidence supporting or failing to support the effectiveness of a proposed prevention measure, and
- recognize examples of bias in screening studies.
