In addition to professorial duties, I am a Co-Investigator of the Data Coordinating Center for the NHLBI-funded AsthmaNet network. The AsthmaNet conducts multi-center clinical trials in asthma which have resulted in international recognition and multiple publications. I also serve on the Data Safety and Monitoring Committees for various trials.
(Click on Dr. King's name above for selected publications; you may also appreciate that Dr. King was awarded the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Penn State College of Medicine in 2009.)
I work in applied statistics: the design and analysis of clinical trials, with particular interest in those related to cardiovascular and cancer therapeutics. I am active in medical education related to biostatistics and epidemiology. I serve on an Institutional Review Board at Penn State Hershey COM. My experiences prior to coming to Penn State included five years as a biostatistician for Phase III cardiovascular trials at a major pharmaceutical company.
Dr. Steven Bai, Sr. Biometrics Reviewer, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), FDA
I work for the Cardiovascular and Renal Division at FDA. Our Division regulates and reviews Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and marketing applications for drug and biologic products for the treatment of cardiovascular conditions and diseases, such as acute coronary syndrome, congestive heart failure, hypertension, peripheral arterial disease, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac arrhythmias, as well as for drug and biologic products for the treatment of kidney diseases and conditions, such as acute and chronic renal failure, end-stage renal disease, lupus nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and dialysate products used in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. I have been a statistical reviewer for this division for the past 11 years.
To reach the instructor of this course, use Canvas email, checking the box to 'send a copy to each recipient's Internet email.' (you can choose this as a default in your course mail settings). You can also post questions in the general discussion space for the lesson. Generally, you can expect one of the instructors to check for questions in the course discussion space once a day, Monday-Friday. Start early and ask questions of the instructor during the work week for a more rapid response. Classmates may also respond to each other's questions when they are posted in the general discussion space. If you email us a question that is of general interest, we will share the Q and A in the discussion space or by email with the rest of the class.
Students are expected to post assignments and take quizzes by the completion date listed in the course schedule. (See syllabus for policy)
You are expected to post/submit your own individual work, unless the assignment has been made to a group. Some students may have a friend review their writing before submitting; this should be for comments and suggestions, not a re-write/major revisions. Your voice should come through in your writing. It is important that the work you submit reflects your abilities and thoughts.
