I started with both online and resident courses from my first year and continue to balance courses in both environments, which suits me perfectly.

My research interests include multiple testing methods and false discovery rate control. What I enjoy most about teaching in statistics is making connections between theory and application to real problems.
As first a graduate student studying statistics here at PSU, I was already quite fond of the people and surroundings of Happy Valley and was extremely happy to have the opportunity to remain here as an instructor when I graduated. In my spare time, I enjoy movies, piano, and Frisbee golf (when the weather’s nice).
In addition to providing additional flexibility, the online environment allows students from all over the world to come together and share their perspectives. Every semester brings something new and exciting!
I find statistics is best explained with real examples, either through the discussion board or by phone/video chat. If the concept can be motivated with a real-world problem, I believe the students are more likely to make the connection.
The challenge in an environment that affords a lot of flexibility is to manage one’s time well from day to day. I recommend looking ahead at the beginning of each week and planning time to study in advance to avoid getting behind.
